Descriptive card

In the 1830s Friedrich Rückert rendered large portions of the Qur'an into German verse. The work, though incomplete, is a masterpiece of German poetry and Qur'anic scholarship. It was first published in 1888, 22 years after Rückert's death. A modern edition edited and prefaced by Hartmut Bobzin first appeared in 1995: Der Koran in der Übersetzung von Friedrich Rückert. See revised 5th edn. (2018).
